Russian cbank cuts foreign currency purchases on ruble volatility

MOSCOW, Jun 8 (PRIME) -- The Russian central bank reduced foreign currency purchases from the market last week due to high volatility, First Deputy Chairwoman Ksenia Yudayeva told reporters Monday.

The central bank purchased U.S. $131 million worth of foreign currency on the domestic market with settlements scheduled for June 5. Earlier last week it bought an equivalent to 10.7 billion rubles or $150 million.

“Apparently, there was such a high volatility last week that it (foreign currency purchases’ amount) was reduced. It can be restored,” Yudayeva said.

(56.2463 rubles – U.S. $1)
